Mead's milkweed (Asclepias meadii) population dynamics University of Kansas Ecosystems Research Group, University of Kansas Field Station

Mead's milkweed is a rare plant of the tallgrass prairie that currently is found primarily in eastern Kansas and Missouri.  Most populations are very small, but the University of Kansas Field Station manages two prairies (Rockefeller Prairie, Anderson County Prairie Reserve) that have some of the largest populations in Kansas.  Since 1988, studies at the Field Station have explored the population dynamics, herbivory, and seedling establishment of this species, which often is used as an indicator of prairie quality.  This research has led to a deeper understanding of the ecology of Mead's mi

1990 Kansas Land Cover Patterns Kansas Applied Remote Sensing

We are pleased to announce the release of an update to the 1990 Kansas Land Cover Patterns (KLCP1990) map. The update version differs from the original release in four ways; First, the data format for the original release was an ArcInfo coverage, while the update release is an ArcInfo GRID. Second, the original's projection was Geographic with NAD83 datum. The update's projection is Albers Conic Equal Area with NAD83 datum. Third, the coding scheme for land cover classes was changed to match the coding scheme used in the Kansas Land Cover Patterns 2005 database.

In the mid-ninties, KBS embarked on a large nonpoint source pollution study commonly referred to as the Tristate study. From 1992 - 1994 sixteen watersheds in the Western Corn Belt Plains of Kansas, Nebraska, and Iowa were sampled at five sites each.
