Development of Missouri Reference Wetlands

2013 to 2017
Primary Contact:
Research Location:

The objectives of this project were to:

  1. Identify candidate reference wetlands in Missouri using existing landscape-level data, and begin development of a quantitative, scientifically defensible method to determine candidate reference site conditions in Missouri wetlands.  Geographic location of the wetlands will be restricted to:  The Western Corn Belt Plains, Central Irregular Plains, and Interior River Lowland ecoregions; and Missouri River floodplain and confluences of major tributaries associated with the above ecoregions.
  2. Conduct on-site water quality and biological sampling.  We will sample wetlands in Missouri during the summers of 2015 and 2016 and look at water quality, plants, and macroinvertebrates.
  3. Validate reference site methodology and selection using water quality and biological data.
